PNEUMA - Air and Spirit

Solo exhibition at the

Liu Haisu Museum

Shanghai, China

2016 - 2017

Curated by Nora Carrillo Matamoros.

Pneuma means vital spirit, soul, or creative force of a human being. With the metalic wire Xawery Wolski creates tridimensional space between drawing and  sculpture. Tendering spirit to this space, Pneuma is a blow that brings lucidity, shape and movement to matter and inert forms , such as shadow and air.

The process of making of each piece is long and laborious. It involves the meditation which is key to this work: deliberate, patient repetitive movements that start with " nothing " and pursue towards infinity. The series of works elicits a contemplative reflection upon the nature and dimensional ambiguity of space. The viewer, confronted with the simplicity of the composition but the multiplicity of messages, is invited to self-reflect and meditate. The work has an open-ended interpretation but it always leads to enhanced self-awarnes.
